Nostalgia's Appeal to Dead Love Triangle's Early Sound

Frontman Ben Roberts describes how nostalgia impacts him, and the weight it has on his 2021 releases.

By: Brittany Deitch

Dead Love Triangle has grown into a project of pure dreaminess and passion with the help of members bassist Jason Hankins, guitarist Will Sawyer, and drummer Ben Roberts who fronts the project. The band is a cumulation of years and years of friendship and a reflection of the beauty of everyday life, all coming together to create a sentimental sound.

The releases under this project have been pioneered by Roberts, who writes in the form of authentic feeling. Pulling inspiration from his small Philly greats, Current Joys and Cyberbully Mom Club, Ben defines his sound in the feel-good, surf-rock that plays like a daydream. Perfectly, too, in the North Philadelphia basements where he has found a niche. He has planted his feet in the DIY scene, and found his footing with an overwhelmingly loyal audience that isn't afraid to show up loudly and enthusiastically.

Listen as the members discuss the project's formation, their inspirations, nostalgia, and so so much more. Ben leaves us with: “It’s not that serious” (*˙︶˙*)☆*°
