Four visual poems
By: Birdi Avila-Salinas
Untitled - "A moment of insecurity where I felt as though the love I was receiving would be more productive elsewhere. The pieces from the collage are from old magazines and stamp cut-outs."
Rodent Funeral - "Upon walking into work on the farm one day, there was a raccoon dead by our shed. It was early in the morning, too early to see a corpse, and I felt inclined to write the following."
Bird Watchin’ - "This piece is a collection of magazine images and old film sourced from a friend during a crafting session. Inspired by that spring, where I spent a lot of my time people watching in Rittenhouse Square."
Maternal Waning - "This was written after a long therapy session discussing my relationship with my mother during my earlier adolescence. This poem is a reflection on the silences after screaming matches, the judgement from mother to daughter, and the impeccable truth that I will one day see herself in me."
